How Do We Keep Ourselves Safe When We Travel?Should We Be Frightened To Do So?
I suffer from COPD and IBS I travel alone, just make sure you've got all your med's and inhalers with you at all times. You only have one life so live it.
NO, I still enjoy that, though it can be a pain in several parts of the anatomy. I use a POC to fly, so I have O2 on the flight and stay saturated that way. If necessary I use a wheelchair for long distances that have to be covered quickly, and walk it on my own if I have time to do it. Apparently my immune system is still really good, because I don't catch things. Flying allows me to do lots of interesting and satisfying things, and I'm going to continue to do those things until it's no longer fun. Then I'll stop.
@ DanPence. When I travel I take my C-Pap machine ,generated oxygen machine & my nebulizer machine and all the meds. needed for the macine's also distilled water for the C-pap machine. It's a pain. So I just quit traveling also if I'd have all that with meand still became short of breath I'd have to take a Nitrostat tab. under my tongue.I can't go to any state that has a hi elevation. My brother lives in Reno which I can't go there anymore brings on my A. Fib. attacks. So it's not just my COPD its also my heart ,I had a pacemaker put in approx.6 1/2 yrs. ago. So I'm like that Ever Ready Battery just keep ticking & ticking away . lol We have to do alot of joking and pranking at our ages know haha.God willing I'll be attending my 60th Class Re-Union this July.Looking forw ard to that. I will be79 in Aug. lol I added you to out Team. We need you to keep the Team Hope together . lol Well I'll be praying for you to continue with your high spirit's that's the start of a good day eveyday. Bless you
What exactly are you concerned about? People with COPD generally don't have sudden, unexplained attacks that require medical attention. That's not to say they can't happen, but they generally don't. I've had COPD since 1985, and I still travel at least twice a month by air. I use O2 to fly and do quite nicely. If your COPD is under reasonably good control, you generally don't get something respiratory, and you want to travel, there's no reason why you shouldn't.
Some people use masks, others use lots of antibacterial wipes and gels and some of us just take reasonable precautions, wash our hands and hope we don't sit next to someone who's really sick. I always used a sinus rinse after I fly and that seems to take care of a lot of things for me. I rarely get sick, and I can't remember when I've been sure it was something I picked up on a plane.
Assuming that you're in reasonably decent shape except for your COPD and can stay well oxygenated on a plane, I see no reason for you not to travel. It does take a little more planning, but I find it well worth the effort.
Hang in there. Do what you can. Enjoy your life. I will be praying and thinking about you and everyone else.
