After smoking for 29 years, I could feel the health effects & decided I had to do something. I had previously tried giving up cigarettes cold turkey, & using bupropion and varenicline. No approach had any good effect.

After doing some research I found out about e-cigs. Because nicotine is not able to be legally sold in Australia, I ordered some nic. from overseas and some e-cigs from a local vendor. When all the bits arrived I had a vape on the e-cig and realized I was an ex-smoker! :)

Although my COPD did not magically fix itself, I have been able to get rid of the hacking cough I had almost all the time, and feel much better than I did when smoking.

I would highly recommend that all smokers try at least a FEW different e-cigs. Vaping is a very customizable and individual activity, and it works best if you look for your 'ideal vape' in terms of tightness of draw, 'throat hit', cloudiness of vapor, as well as the nicotine strength and the flavor of the liquid used.

Public Health England determined that vaping (even with nicotine) was around 95% less harmful than smoking. There is a small doubt about some chemicals that might be used in flavors, but Dr Konstantinos Farsalinos (who has done testing of the liquids) points out that the levels are 100s of times lower than you'd get from cigarette smoke.

Nothing is completely safe, but e-cigs (with or without nicotine or flavors) are vastly safer than what they are replacing.

Im 68, smoked since let me think? we sold our corner shop when I was 12 yr old and I was smoking when we had the shop so say 11 yr old..Was told I had COPD quite a few yrs ago and tried to stop smoking but nothing worked and I would never recommend the sucicide pill (champrix/chantix) to anyone.. ..On the 21st Feb 2013 bought an ecig and have never touched tobacco since..no craving for nicotine whats so ever even though I smoked at least 40 a day.Progressed onto better Vapegear now because I enjoy the taste and dont use nicotine ..Whilst smoking I would be on anti-biotics about every 3 months ,not its rare if use them.I go to the local Gym once a week for what they call the lung club where we do gentle excersise ..

i quit smoking using a vape pen , i started on 18mg nic and reduced when i started getting headaches. i am now down to 3mg and 0mg which ever takes my fancy. the one thing i have noticed in the 3 years i have been vaping is that i have had NO chest infection at all since swapping to vape from smoking. when i was smoking i would have chest infections that would last weeks and i would catch on at the drop of a hat. but now i dont get colds or any type of infections that affect my chest. i have 3 grand-kids that i see every week who are at school and always have sniffles or colds but i never catch them. i dont care what anyone says about vapping it has worked for me. i breath better i only use one inhaler fostair (when i remember to take it) as my breathing feels a lot better have not used my blue inhaler (salbutamol) in 3 years

@A MyCOPDTeam Member - Any flavour that works at getting the smoker to switch is good by me. ;) If it is bubblegum, so be it. Some absolutely love tobaccos whilst others hate them and move right to the fruity or fun flavours. Taste is very subjective. :)

This is basically how i look at vaping.......The juices that contain flavours like..coffee, apple etc etc are not recommended, much prefering to stick with the Tobacco (Marlboro Red) or the Menthol.....The degree of nicotine does not matter as the poison is in the smoke....The basic idea is to wean down to 0 n then quit using the e-cig.....that is the ''theory'' like a Pred. taper but with no fixed time limit.

If people want to raise vaping as an issue then maybe they should do some research on how many dangerous toxins they inhale whenever they sit in their cars, while sitting in traffic, with their air-con and heaters running........or what harmful chemicals they are exposed to when using, either their aircons or heaters at home.....or how about going for a walk downtown, inhaling all the exhaust fumes....yet they get so paranoid over vaping and cannot offer any ''Unbiased'' trial evidence.......The fact remains we have compromised lungs already so don't inhale anything!!!!!
