I found as soon as i felt an exacerbation attack, i would quickly sit down, and it didn't matter where. I once sat down on a bread shelf in Walmart. Once your seated, do everything in your power to relax your whole body. i know it may seem difficult, but try very hard to relax your breathing. try to breath more slowly, even though your body says to breath harder and faster. The faster you are breathing, prevents you from not only getting all the bad air out, it prevents you from getting enough good air in, and during an attack that is dangerous to continue breathing shallow and fast. So just know in your mind what you have to do. Drop your shoulders, it's very common to unknowingly raise our shoulders, that should be your first thing done as you start relaxing your whole body. Don't panic if it seems the slower breathing, getting as much air in and out. Each new breath you do take, still keeping your body relaxed, will start to be longer and deeper, till soon you feel it ok now. For my self, as i'm relaxing my body, i turn my mind to the Lord. I give God my situation, i let Him k ow that i trust, and i have faith in Him, to bring everything in my body to work together. I trusted God so much, i thanked him, before i was even breathing better. I knew, i had nothing to fear, but fear its self. And its that fear, that increases those attacks. Also if there is someone near you, ask them to gently massage your lower neck, and shoulders. That also aids in getting relaxed. Many times during an attack, you may feel you have to get to a bath room. Don't let that concern you, just stay relaxing your body, if it happens you soil yourself, so be it, at least you are alive, Praise God. And don't worry what people are thinking around you, all that is important is you. After everything seems to be like, i'm good to go now, no, give yourself time to fully come back from that attack, give yourself lots of time, before doing what you were doing. You can use that time to thank Jesus, for answered prayers. Life as you have it is a battle, but never give up, you will find victory in time. Another very important thing i always made a point to do, was the very second i though i might be having an attack coming on. Right then and there, i would stop doing what ever i was doing, i sat down, and stay relaxed, which many times for me, i was able to avoid the full attack to set in. I hope this helps, my friend. God be with you, keep smiling, and stay in His word. God Bless.
Pursed lip breathing. It can be hard to remember to do it, but it helps. Breath in 2 seconds, exhale through pursed lip for 4 seconds.
When I get short of breath I do focal point breathing grab a focal point count in breath on 3 out at 10. Consentrate on the count forces me to slow down and relax without trying.
Gust of wind I find makes it harder to breath. Cold air and intense heat affects our breathing. When I sense a panic attack coming on I sit up straight and do purse lip breathing fast.
I count, 5 things you can see, 4 things you can feel, 3 things you can smell, 2 things you can hear, and 1 thing you can taste. by the time I have done that my panic attack has passed. So far it has worked.
