Anxiety/Panic Attacks

A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭
Salem, OR

Lately I have developed moderate to severe anxiety attacks.. they're awful..does anyone know why these are happening? What may be bringing them on? I've .had a rough time with my copd the last cpl of months. On round 3 of prednisone and using new inhaler Spiriva. I try to talk myself down but I'm not doing that so well.

Anxiety and copd go hand in hand. When you brain thinks it is not getting enough oxygen it make you panic. Most of the time I dont realize how sob I am until I get the anxiety. When I start feeling a panic attack I run my wrists under cold water and it reminds me to use the purse lips breathing and makes me focus and the anxiety eases

I was having them so bad that the doctor put me on a low dose of anxiety medicine. I don't have them anymore. That was two weeks ago.
