Did Your Doctor Tell You What Stage Of Copd You Were, Or Did You Ask?

A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭
Lake Mills, WI

I didnt know until very recently that there were 4 stages of copd. Neither my primary care physician, nor my pulmonary physician mentioned this. Both of them started telling me about 6 months ago that I should get a handicap sticker, but thats all. So I guess I should ask them which stage Im at? Regarding the handicap sticker- Anyone else having a hard time agreeing to get one? Ive put it off for 6 months & still dont want one. Sounds silly, but getting one for me is like giving up.

I have one so i can park close and not have to use all my energy just walking to a place. Also when i was out southwest if u have a handicap sticker i just would pull in to a gas station and beep the horn and an attentent would come out to help me..boy did that make me happy then i didnt have to smell the gas.

I also have a sticker and it does make it easier in the parking lots. As to what stage you are at I prefer not to know what are you going to do if you are in stage 3 or 4 worry yourself into an early grave, I am not ready for that yet I just take one day at a time andtry to live the best way I can If I want to go somewhere I go I am still mobile and that helps a lot breathe easy and take care

I finally asked because it seem to be my breathing was getting worse ,& the short walks would make me weak when I tried to tell myself that I was getting better .i could not see things getting better even when I thought I was better . Finally asked ,he told me stage 4 ,but keep trying to go ...HUGS

I was giving up going places because I had to walk to far - the sticker has made it so I don't have to give up. Have a great day - God bless

Pride and ego (I am not critisizing here!) Will keep us from having and experiencing things which can enhance, enrich and enjoy a better life.
I understand your feelings.... Now that I have it, I give myself permission to just not use it and park a small distance from the "blue" spaces because I'm feeling good that day or my list is small.... I leave the spot for someone else who might need it more than I do. I feel good about this.
Some days, I would just stay home and not do anything out in the world because I could not park closer!
Now I have an option. So, with it, your choices grow. New freedom blossoms!
Get THE Blue Card!!!
