o2 readings should be in the upper 80's to mid 90's If your gasping for air, your oxygen is too low.

No. What are your sats when you're not on O2? What liter flow are you using? When do your sats fall? Right when you get up or after you've been moving for awhile? How far do they fall?

It's important to know when and under what circumstances your O2 sats fall. If they fall when you first begin moving and then fall further as you go, my guess would be that you're not getting enough O2 to keep you saturated and I'd turn the O2 up and see if that improves the situation. If you get started on something and your O2 sats fall with increased exertion, I'd turn the O2 up to get you back into a good saturation range. If your sats are good before you turn the O2 on and go down after it's on, I'd check with the doc because something is not right.

In any case, you need to keep track of your sats, when they fall and how much and take that information to your doc. He should work with your O2 provider to figure out what the appropriate prescription should be. This is why I recommend that you and your doc figure out a good range of O2 sats for you and the O2 be prescribed to meet that requirement. If you can persuade your doc to let you titrate your own O2 according to a range of saturation levels, you'll be able to control things very nicely.

Here's a good video to watch, and to recommend that your doc take a look as well.

Dan, O2 sats of 70 are never good, and can be quite dangerous. Anything below 88 is considered grounds for supplementary O2. If her sats are in the 70's with O2, something is quite wrong with her prescription for O2 and she needs to talk with her doc about that. Right heart failure (cor Pulmonale) and brain damage are both very serious. With sats in the 70's for any length of time, she's likely to be in serious trouble, IMHO.

Always be aware that trapping CO2. Your O2 sats may be dropping and increase in O2 may not always help. you may be suffering from PAD or hypertension. Please see your doctor and definitely get to a doc when your O2 sats drop below 80 as that is very dangerous.
