Trouble Sleeping
Hey folks, insomnia has been a challenge for the past several months, and my shrink wants to discontinue Xanax (which happens to work) because of increasing tolerance and addiction potential. Hydroxyzine and Trazodone don't help. I'd appreciate suggestions from anyone who's been through this. Thanks!
Yes anti-anxiety drugs need to be changed every once in a while because you build up a tolerance and can get addicted to one kind. Just keep working with your Dr and changing it or the dose till you find another one that works as well.
I'm not sure what to do about the insomnia, as I have a friend that has a chronic problem and still struggles with it all her life.
@A MyCOPDTeam Member, I went to a Sleep/ Lung doctor about my insomnia. I can't tell you everything said in the appointment about 8 years ago, but two things: get off sleep medicine and find out about Sleep Hygiene. I sleep well now without anything but my CPAP. I moved into a small room with no lights, except one for reading that I turn off before sleep. Good luck 🤞
I take Ativan 0.5 mg 2x a day for air hunger/panic attacks due to COPD.
I have always had trouble falling asleep even as a young person. I developed a meditation and mental "story telling" routine that slowly takes me into dreamland.
The story telling would be along the lines of hiking a wooded path beside slow moving creek. Note to self....no lions, tigers or bears allowed. 😁
