Why, When It Is A Common Side Effect Will My Pulmonologist Not Prescribe An Antidepressant But Refers To PCP Who Won't Prescribe More.

Mood disorders are outside a pulmonologist's area of expertise. Push for a referral to a psychiatrist. Last year I was hospitalized for severe depression and anxiety and have regular contact with a psychiatrist and am on antidepressants and anxiety medications. It's so hard to deal with multiple conditions. I have a great family doctor and the specialists communicate regularly with him. Keep pushing your family doctor to make a referral. Take care.

Because a pulmonologist, can not prescribe any medicine that is a controlled drug. Only medicine that has to deal with lungs. That is state and government regulated And insurance won't allow it.

My Pulmonologist sent me to my Primary Dr and told me to ask for something for the anxiety. He even messaged her and helped with getting. That actually really helps keep all my doctors communicating and informed about my condition.
Hope that explains it a little for you. Breathe Ez.........

PCP would only give me 5 pills for anxiety. In researching COPD anxiety & depression are the primary side effects, don't doctors know this? Had a cocktail the other night & that seemed to calm me down, don't need a script for that. I slept well also
