Does Anyone Take A Low Dose Of Prednisone To Help Their Breathing With COPD?If So, What Kind Of Dosage Is Prescribed. Thanks.
A low dose of prednisone is one of the last things most pulmonologists want to prescribe because of the side effects, but sometimes that is one of the things that will help when things get really difficult. Most people are able to tolerate a 5 - 10 mg dose either daily or every other day fairly well, but the side effects do make a difference over the long term.
Yes Rick. Taking a 5 - 10mg pill is considered low dose. Some days its 15. I have an open script at the pharmacy. My Docs don't want me to wait if a Flare-up is on the way. If you don't have diabetes and your Docs know you understand using steroids, you may get some more relief from a daily regimen too. Much has changed in the last three years, for sure. Be well.
DO your research and check with your Docs again. The "bad side-effects" argument is one-sided and partial at best. Prednisone is included in the approved treatment standards for COPD.
Many beneficial treatments have come about as a result of a known Drug side effects. Don't deny yourself some comfort and relief from this condition based upon an unscientific or personal bias.

Hi
I have been on 5 mg per day for > 10 years w/o any side effects. No weight gain, no phychosis, no anything. Feel fine, take many vitamins and nutrients.

I have a prescription for 5mg. I was taking one pill a day for about 4 years. My doctor is cutting me down and told me to break the 💊 pill in half. Now if I get sick bronchitis or any other respiratory infection he will give me an antibiotic and put me on 25mg for 10 days.
